What was life like before my SilkKiss pillowcase??? - Amanda, UK

Scientific Research

Plenty of dermatological research has been done into the effects of particular sleeping positions and the effect of certain fabrics to skin and hair. One of the pioneers in this area was the American Dermatologic Surgeon Dr Samuel J. Stegman.

His hallmark work on sleep wrinkles proved that the muscular region of the face known as the "underlying superficial muscular aponeurotic system" (SMAS) was damaged by pillow contact. He observed that the lines diminished when pressure was removed from the delicate tissues during sleep. A silk pillowcase will do just that, allowing your face to slide across the pillow, thereby minimizing creasing of the skin.
